Junkets no more
By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, DEC. 8. State legislators can't go on junkets within the country at government's expense any longer. And, officials' foreign trips too have come under curbs.

The ``financially sick'' Government will save up Rs. 36 lakhs by putting on hold the tours of the various committees to other States for studying administrative and legislative practices there.

Also, the Government has decided to restrict to a minimum the foreign visits of officials too, according to an official release here.

For instance, the proposed trip by a team of PWD and Housing department officials to Australia and America has been cancelled in view of the financial crisis.
