Deepti, Prejeesha, Rajasree and Kavithamani set meet records

KANNUR, DEC. 8. It was decidedly the girls day at the Police Parade Ground.
They accounted for four of the five new meet records set on the opening day of the 45th Kerala State athletics championship on Saturday.
To make the day even more forgettable for the boys, the National men's under-22 record holder in the long jump, A.K. Shani, who had leapt 7.47m at Thrissur in the Nationals just a month ago, was beaten in the boys (under-20) event, which was won by R. Rajesh of Kollam (7.16m). Shani could manage only 6.81m.
The new records were set by Deepthi Jose of Pathanamthitta in the girls (under-20) 100m, M. K. Prejeesha of host Kannur in the girls (under-20) javelin throw, R. L. Rajasree of Kozhikode in the girls (under-18) shot put and Kavithamani Sreedharan of Kottayam in the girls (under-16) 100m she shattered a six-year-old record of Jetty C. Joseph - and P. Riju of Thrissur in the boys (under-18) discus throw. The lonely star among the boys bettered his own record set last year.

KOZHIKODE, DEC. 8. Yuvabhavana Sports Club scored a thumping 8-1 win against Government ITI in the Allwyn Kozhikode District `D' Division footbal league here on Saturday.
