Prasanth's haul cheers Kerala
By Our Sports Reporter

KOCHI, DEC 8. Left- arm spinner P. Prasanth's superb four-wicket haul (for nine runs) brought the smile back to the Kerala camp on the opening day of the V.Pattabhiraman Trophy South Zone under-16 cricket league three-dayer against Hyderabad at the Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

``Nothing much to cheer about,'' said Kerala coach Robin Menon after his side made a modest 203 in its first innings. But by close, Prasanth's performance, which had Hyderabad struggling at 74 for four, offered the host much hope.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Kerala appeared shaky at 91 for five just before lunch but recovered smartly. C. Jithin's half-century (52, 116 b, 7 x 4) and a fine 73-run, sixth-wicket stand between captain Raiphy Vincent Gomes (40, 55 b, 7 x 4) and Prasanth (32) were the highlights of the Kerala innings. Hyderabad off-spinner Amol Shinde (4-41) and medium- pacer Alfred Absolam (3-63) picked the bulk of the wickets.

The scores (day one): Kerala 203 in 63.5 overs (C. Jithin 52, Robert Fernandez 25, Raiphy Vincent Gomes 40, P. Prasanth 32, Alfred Absolam three for 63, Amol Shinde four for 41) v Hyderabad 74 for four in 25 overs (Sushanth Pallemoni 42, P. Prasanth 4-9).
