CHENNAI, DEC. 8. The central secretariat of the Communist Party of India has expressed shock over the demolition of the Periyar Centre in New Delhi by the Delhi Development Authority.

It urged the Delhi Government to extend necessary help to rebuild the centre to carry on its constructive work.

In a statement today, the party said the centre had been providing IT education to students from poor and downtrodden families besides spreading the ideals of social equality.

The authority should have taken these factors into consideration before demolishing the centre, the statement added.
