Haryana to introduce VAT soon

CHANDIGARH, DEC. 8. The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr.Om Prakash Chautala, claimed yesterday that Haryana was the first State in the country to introduce a uniform rate of tax and it would implement VAT - Value Added Tax - soon.

Speaking at a conference of Chief Ministers of the

northern region on Dynamic North-Synergy for Growth organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi, he said that a number of steps had also been taken to promote trade and industry. As a result of rationalisation of the tax structure, the revenue receipts had increased considerably.

A Haryana Mission on Employment had been constituted to provide employment opportunities to the unemployed on a large- scale. This Mission aims at providing employment to 25 lakh people during next 10 years. A time-bound action plan was also being prepared in this context. He said that a job-oriented Education Policy had also been introduced which lays stress on promotion of technical education.

He claimed that the new Industrial Policy, introduced by the State Government, had started yielding encouraging results. As many as 71 multi-national companies had set up their units in the State during last two years. Also, 2750 small and medium scale industrial units had been set up. He said that 4200 industrial plots were allotted to the units displaced from Delhi following the decision of the Supreme Court. They were provided all possible help to make them functional.

He further said that the State Government was giving top priority to the development of infrastructure for rapid industrial growth. As many as 499 MW of additional power was generated during last two years. Gurgaon had been developed as a pollution free area which was necessary for the development of IT industry.
