Satyam Computer to open centre in China

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, NOV. 6. In tune with its continued thrust on geographical expansion in the post-slowdown period, Satyam Computer Services is planning to open a ``solutions centre'' in Shanghai (China) to tap the potential business opportunities offered by the Chinese market, as also to serve as an outsourcing centre to service the neighbouring markets.

The inauguration of the solutions centre is tentatively scheduled for December 24. It will start off with 20 professionals in the first phase, and will offer its expertise across vertical and horizontal domains. It has already bagged business from a Chinese firm ``Huwei''.

Following the slowdown in the U.S., a strong market base for Satyam, the latter has been exploring opportunities in other parts of the world such as Canada, European Union and Australia. In line with this strategy of thrust on geographical expansion, Satyam is planning marketing offices in Hong Kong and Korea, and recently opened one in Malaysia. Earlier it launched the `Mission Europe 2001' to give greater focus to the European market

Satyam currently has nine off site development centres across the globe. A diverse end-to-end solutions provider, Satyam offers a range of expertise aimed at helping customers re-engineer and re- invent their businesses. With over 10,600 highly skilled IT professional, Satyam and its subsidiaries and JVs work onsite, offshore or offsite to provide customised IT solutions in several sectors.

Only last week, Satyam announced the opening of its first software development centre in Australia to offer offsite IT competencies and consulting services for local customers.
