Social pollution?
Sir, - Compare religion with steam engines. Steam engines played
a crucial role in the 19th century industrial revolution which
made our lives comfortable. But today, steam engines are being
phased out because of the pollution they cause. Similarly,
religion helped in shaping and ushering in social order in
primitive societies.
But today, it is causing ``social pollution.'' The shocking
September 11 strikes and the destruction of the mosque at Ayodhya
and the Buddhist sculptures in Afghanistan bear testimony to
this.
All right-thinking people will agree that religion has absolutely
no place in the modern society and those indulging in spreading
this social pollution must be dealt with firmly.
