`Corruption should be eradicated'

PONDICHERRY, NOV. 6. The Pondicherry additional district judge- cum- chief judicial magistrate, Justice Mr. K.Nazir Ahamed has called for a need to eradicate corruption from society.

Inaugurating a one-day seminar, as part of the `Vigilance Awareness Week' by the administrative reforms wing of Pondicherry administration here today, he said corruption had spread its tentacles in all spheres of public life.

Mr. A.S.Munissamy Superintendent of Police (Vigilance and anti Corruption wing) who gave the introductory speech called for a radical approach to end corruption in the country.

Mr. S.M.Khannaji, joint secretary of administrative reforms and training wing, welcomed the delegates. Mr. M.Arunachalam deputy secretary read messages on behalf of the Union Home Minister Mr. L.K.Advani and the Chief Vigilance Commissioner Mr. Vittal.

Group discussions were later held on `Ethics in government services for eradication of corruption'. Mr. R.S.Chari (retired) chief secretary of Pondicherry was the moderator.

Dr. P.Balasamy professor of English (Pondicherry University), Mr. Anil Shukla SSP, Prof. P.Rajaram director and chief executive officer of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute Pondicherry and Mr. A.Aaladi Mahendran president of Pondicherry Bar Association were on the panel. Discussions on other aspects of vigilance awareness were also held.
