Mystery surrounding woman's death unravelled

HYDERABAD, NOV. 6. The Neredmet police have cracked the mystery surrounding the death of a young woman, Puja, whose partially burnt body was found in a grave yard in Deendayal Nagar locality recently.

Police investigations established that Puja hanged herself, and panicked over her death, her live-in companion, Yadagiri, and her brother, Simhachalam, made an abortive attempt to burn the body in the grave yard.

Yadagiri and Simhachalam were arrested on charges of abetment to suicide and attempt to destroy evidence of crime under sections 306 and 201 of the IPC, the Rangareddy district SP, Mr. M.V. Ramachandra Raju, told a press conference here on Tuesday.

Two other persons who were present in the apartment when Puja hanged herself in one of the bedrooms, were being cited as witnesses to the charges being framed against the two accused. The finding of a half-burnt body of Puja in the grave yard created a sensation in Neredmet locality, what with suspicions being aired about Puja being sexually assaulted and done to death later.

In a bid to help the prosecution in establishing the abetment to suicide, the police video-recorded the reconstruction of scene also. The reconstruction of the crime scene was also transferred on to a compact disc. The case was investigated by the Neredmet SI, Mr. A. Sattaiah, and the Malkajgiri CI, Mr. K. Kishtaiah.
