'U.S. war, an act of global terrorism'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, NOV. 6. The war on Afghanistan led by the United States has been described by the All-India Muslim Majlis-e- Mushawarat as nothing but an act of ``global terrorism'' against the innocent people of a country.

It demanded that the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Conference and the Indian Government jointly put pressure on the U.S. to immediately stop the ``barbaric attack''.

A meeting was held here on Sunday with Maulana Ahmad Ali Qasmi, general secretary of the Mushawarat, in the chair. A large number of Muslim scholars and clerics, who attended it, condemned the U.S. for declaring an ``individual and a country criminal without proof and then declaring war on a country against all international norms''.

The meeting appealed that Friday, November 16, be observed as a day of prayer for the people of Afghanistan.

The Mushawarat described the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO) as being against the spirit of democracy and the Constitution.

Besides, it was a ``conspiracy to terrorise Muslims'' who had a bitter experience with the now-lapsed TADA Act. Already, `madrasas' had come under the microscope and seen as ``hot beds of terrorist activities.'' The ``black law'' had been brought in to communalise the atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh and other States where polls are due in March next year,'' it alleged.
