Probe into Malegaon riots

MUMBAI, NOV. 6. The Maharashtra Government has decided to hold a
judicial inquiry into the recent riots and arson in Malegaon and
nearby villages in Nasik district.
The Chief Minister, Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, who announced the
decision after the Cabinet meeting, said that a retired judge of
the Bombay High Court would be appointed to hold the probe under
the Commission of Inquiry Act and submit his report in six
months. The Commission will identify individuals and groups
responsible for the riots, find out the circumstances and
contributory factors for the riots and review how the police
handled the situation.
