Fiat launches Palio

PANAJI, SEPT. 21. Fiat India (FIL) introduced its much awaited `Palio' in two variants, pricing it below Rs. 5 lakhs in India.

The two variants are 1.2 fire engine AMD 1.6 torque, priced between Rs. 3.49 lakhs and Rs. 4.99 lakhs (ex-showroom in Delhi), FIL Managing Director Mr. M. P. Bianchi said here after the launch of the new car.

The ex-showroom prices for the four models in Delhi are: 1.2 EL has been placed at Rs. 3.49 lakhs, the 1.2 A/C with power steering (PS) at Rs. 3.73 lakhs, the 1.2 ELX A/C PS at Rs. 3.99 lakhs and the top of the order 1.6 A/C PS at Rs. 4.99 lakhs, a company spokesman said.

According to analysts, Fiat has benchmarked the price (ex- showroom in Delhi) more or less on a par with the Zen and Santro models while the top of the model is slightly more than Indica.

Mr. Bianchi said 1,500 cars are ready for delivery, which would begin from September 29 adding that the company expects to sell about 50,000 units in 2002. The `B' segment's diesel version (1.9 engine) will be launched in end 2002.
