Bangalore police seize Rs. 15 lakhs worth goods

BANGALORE, SEPT. 21. Bangalore City police have recovered stolen
articles worth Rs. 15.75 lakhs after arresting 18 persons,
including a postgraduate in business management. In all, 52 cases
of burglary, robbery and vehicle thefts have been solved with
these arrests.
The Kalasipalya police arrested Velliyan, alias Raja (28), Ganesh
(25) and Babu (30) on charges of stealing Rs. 6.50 lakhs from a
steel company on New Osman Khan Road on the night of August 21.
The accused had entered the shop by breaking open the asbestos
sheet and taken away cash kept in a steel almirah. Police have
recovered Rs. 57,000 cash and gold jewellery and electronic
gadgets worth Rs. three lakhs from the arrested youth.
Chickpet police have recovered stolen computers, motorcycles and
National Savings Certificates (NSC) worth Rs. 4.50 lakhs after
arresting Nanganagouda (23), Manjunath, alias Murthy (20), Ramesh
(20), Ganesh (20) and Nagaraj (22).
With their arrest, police claimed to have solved five cases of
house burglaries and thefts and vehicle thefts reported from
Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, Chickpet and Hebbagodi Police Station
limits.
Police said that Nagaraj, who held an MBA degree, had allegedly
stolen NSCs worth Rs. 60,000 from a shop in Chickpet and had sold
them after forging the signatures. When the person who had bought
the NSCs tried to encash them at a post office, the authorities
questioned him about the original owner. He then informed the
police about the purchase and subsequently police arrested
Nagaraj.
Upparpet police arrested Phiroze (23) and Saleem, alias Kaja (19)
and recovered gold chains and car stereos worth Rs. 1.20 lakhs.
The two were allegedly involved in four cases of robbery and 11
cases of car stereo thefts reported from Upparpet, R.T. Nagar,
Vayalikaval, J.C.Nagar and Central Police Station limits.
The City Market police have recovered gold jewellery worth Rs.
25,000 after arresting Raje Gowda (18) on charges of theft. All
these arrests and detections were made under the supervision of
the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Mr. G.B.Chebbi, the
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chickpet), Mr. G.Ahmed Bava,
Inspectors, Mr. B.B.Ashok Kumar, Mr. Ajjappa, Mr. H.J.Mariswamy
Gowda, and Mr. Siddaramaiah.
Yeshwanthapura police claimed to have solved 21 cases of house
burglaries and thefts and five cases of bicycle thefts with the
arrest of Jameel, alias Kandre (22), Velu Murugan, alias Kubbi
(20) and Phiroze (25), all residents of Maraludinne in Tumkur.
Gold jewellery, steel alimarahs, silk saris, electronic gadgets
and bicycles worth Rs. five lakhs have been recovered from them.
A team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police
(Yeshwanthapur), Mr. Panduranga Rao, and Inspector, Mr.
G.S.Nagaraj, nabbed the accused.
Cottonpet police recovered two mopeds and a motorcycle worth Rs.
75,000 by arresting Ayaz Chowdry (20) of Cottonpet. He had
allegedly stolen the vehicles from City Railway Station, OTC Road
and Jalimohallah, police said.
