Govt. not to challenge HC order on coop. banks
By Our Special Correspondent
KOZHIKODE, SEPT. 21. The State Government will not challenge the
decision of the High Court to stay the supersession of managing
committees of seven district cooperative banks, the Cooperation
Minister, Mr. M.V. Raghavan, said here today.
Addressing a press conference, the Minister denied that the
Chief Minister, Mr. A.K. Antony, had advised him against taking
measures to challenge the stay order issued by the Kerala High
Court on disbanding of managing committees of these cooperative
banks. The Minister also dismissed as baseless reports which
spoke of sharp differences having emerged between him and another
Minister of the IUML over the decision to disband the managing
committees of the cooperative banks.
Asked if he was perturbed by the interference of another
Minister in his portfolio, the Minister quipped that interference
by other Ministers would never be a problem.
Mr. Raghavan also reiterated his claim that there was ``no
politics'' in the UDF government's decision. He said the managing
committees were ``disbanded in accordance with an advice given by
the Advocate General and the Government's Law Department. This
advice was based on an earlier decision of the High Court. Now
the court has stayed it. The Government will abide by the court
order. It will not go in appeal.''
Mr. Raghavan said the Government would leave no stone unturned
in obtaining recognition for the medical college at Pariyaram.
Several representations had been sent to the Indian Medical
Council (IMC) to grant recognition to the medical college. The
Health Minister, Mr. P. Sankaran, was also vigourously pursuing
the matter, he said.
