U.S. troops get deployment orders
WASHINGTON, SEPT. 21. Army troops in New York and Texas received
orders today to be deployed as the U.S. preparations for military
action against the terrorists who attacked New York and
Washington intensified.
The latest deployment orders went to the 10th Mountain Division
at Fort Drum, New York and to units at Fort Hood, Texas,
headquarters of the Third Army Corps and home of two heavy army
divisions, a senior Defence official said on condition of
anonymity.
More Air Force planes were ordered to join a build-up of American
firepower in the Gulf area. Fewer than a dozen aircraft,
including B-52 bombers and refuelling planes, were covered by the
order, which followed the deployment earlier this week of more
than 100 combat and support aircraft.
