CMDA regularisation scheme extended

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, SEPT. 1. The CMDA regularisation scheme, which seeks to approve violations in building plans, has been extended to cover structures constructed till July-end this year.

Applications can be submitted till end-November, the Housing and Urban Development Minister, Mr. A. K. Selvaraj, announced in the Assembly on Friday.

The Minister had earlier declared - in the Assembly - that there were ``problems'' in the scheme and the entire scheme was being reworked.

The regularisation scheme, a DMK brain child, was announced in the last year of the DMK Government. This had given rise to many doubts on the real motive behind the scheme.

An Ordinance to the effect, modifying rule 113-A (i) of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act was promulgated by the State Government on August 9, he told the Assembly. Building rule violations would be penalised at 10 per cent less than the 2000 rates, he said.

Rules regarding the scheme would be drawn up shortly and these will be placed in the house.
