Moopanar undergoes hip surgery

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, AUG. 1. The TMC president, Mr. G. K. Moopanar, who suffered a hip injury a few months ago, underwent an orthopaedic surgery at a private hospital today.

According to a press release from the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute Dean, Dr. S. Thanikachalam, the surgery was performed successfully and Mr. Moopanar would have to stay in the hospital for two to three weeks.

Karunanidhi in hospital

The DMK president, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, was admitted to a private hospital today for treatment of the persistent ``stinging'' pain in his right arm.

Just a day after he displayed the ``blood clot'' in his arms yesterday, suffered allegedly due to the police manhandling when he was arrested on June 29 night, Mr. Karunanidhi was moved to the Apollo hospital. A party release said Mr. Karunanidhi had suffered ``internal injury'' in his right shoulder muscle following the ``brutal attack'' by the police during his arrest. The internal injury had now caused a ``blood clot''. As he required rest, he would not meet visitors at the hospital, the release added. Party sources said Mr. Karunanidhi may be discharged in a couple of days.
