When a constable stopped his boss
By Our Special Correspondent
AHMEDABAD, AUG. 1. The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, Mr. P.C.
Pande, found himself at the receiving end today when he was
stopped by a traffic policeman for sporting a digital number
plate in his private car.
As Mr. Pande (in civilian dress) was driving down the Satellite
Road during the morning peak hour, the traffic constable stopped
him and pointed out that the number plate in his car was not in
conformity with rules. The constable also asked the commissioner
to produce his driving licence and the ``pollution under
control'' certificate.
Since the occupant was carrying the necessary documents, the
constable allowed Mr. Pande to proceed with a warning to change
the number plate. He also did not charge any spot fine because
the occupant `behaved properly' and promised to change the
offending number plate.
The constable, Mr. Mohansinh Baria, was pleasantly surprised when
he was summoned to the Police Commissioner's office later in the
day to be given a reward of Rs. 500 for exemplary behaviour.
