 NDA reaffirms faith in PM
The National Democratic Alliance today expressed ``unqualified faith and trust'' in the leadership of the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, who later described as a ``closed chapter'' his offer of resignation made yesterday. However, the conspicuous absence of the Shiv Sena at the NDA meeting was a clear signal that the problem of cohesiveness in the ruling alliance was far from over.

Idol removed from mosque site
The communal tension prevailing at Asind in Bhilwara district, where a 16th century mosque was pulled down by a mob last Friday, subsided today following the removal of the idol installed at the site.

New turn to Phoolan murder case
The Phoolan Devi murder case took a new turn today with a startling ``disclosure'' that the prime accused, Sher Singh Rana alias Sheru alias Pankaj, and Rajender alias Ravinder were in the Hardwar jail till July 26 in separate excise cases as per police records there even as the two are alleged to have shot the Samajwadi Party MP dead outside her 44, Ashoka Road residence in New Delhi on July 25 as per Delhi police investigations.

PM does some plain-speaking to NDA
If yesterday the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee had laid himself open to a bit of ridicule by first threatening to resign and then all too quickly agreeing to stay put, today he reclaimed some of his prestige. And if in the days to come he can prove that he means what he said to the NDA coalition partners this morning, he could well reclaim some of his eroded authority. And, that is a big if, as the evening was to show.

Talks with NSCN(I-M) to continue
After terminating the geographical extension of the Naga ceasefire agreement in the wake of violent protests in Manipur, the Centre is stepping up efforts to keep the NSCN (I-M) leadership engaged in a dialogue.

India briefs France on Agra summit
India has extensively briefed France on the Agra summit as part of its effort to convey its views on the Indo-Pak. talks to the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.

One-line denial won't do: Cong.
The Congress today expressed dissatisfaction with the clarification of the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, denying involvement of the PMO in UTI investments.
