By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 26.

To tackle the accommodation problem of its employees, the Central Government is engaged in a number of housing projects. `Nivedita Kunj', a new residential complex for its employees in R.K. Puram is one such, which was inaugurated by the Union Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister, Mr. Jagmohan here today. It is expected to help ease the accommodation shortage faced by government servants particularly in the low and middle income groups. Plans for construction of another set of 1,440 houses outside Delhi are also in the pipeline.

The new residential complex houses 220 units and an additional 280 units are slated to be constructed by the end of the year. These are quake resistant and have the latest fire fighting equipment. The design also includes provision for rain water harvesting.

The government had formulated a scheme for retired employees which would cover those who retire within five years commencing July 2 this year. The scheme will be implemented by the Delhi Development Authority. As part of the scheme, about 2,000 units of middle income group, low income group and Janata category would be constructed in Dwarka, Rohini and Narela. Employees of Central Government, Delhi Government and statutory bodies of the Central and State government would be entitled to apply under this scheme.

Along with the inauguration of ``Nivedita Kunj'', the development work for a park in Sector 10 of R.K. Puram, was launched by South Delhi MP, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra. The park will be named after the late Major Som Nath Sharma, Param Vir Chakra winner.
