IAS officers' transfer
Sir, - The latest reshuffle of IAS officers by the Tamil Nadu
Government does not bode well for the State. For instance, the
erstwhile Commissioner of the Chennai Corporation was kept
waiting for some time before being posted as Joint Secretary,
School Education. Within a month he has been shifted. Similarly,
the Transport Commissioner had in a letter to me asked if the
Accident Victims Association, of which I am the secretary, knew
if we can maintain cranes and ambulances on the high roads as per
the directions of the Union Surface Ministry. Before I could even
send a reply, he has been shifted again. There appears to be a
sinister plan behind such frequent transfers. The families of IAS
officers will suffer due to the uncertainty of postings. When
even auto drivers are forcing their views on the Government by
strike and other methods, it is a pity that the IAS Officers
Association is sleeping. Any punishment to one of its members
should be treated as punishment to everyone and they must assert
their rights before it is too late.
C. Lakshmi Narain,
Chennai
