Travel expo begins

CHENNAI, JULY 26. A three-day exposition featuring all
stakeholders in the hospitality and travel business began in the
city on Thursday.
Organised by the Bangalore-based India International Travel Mart
(IITM), at Ispahani Centre, Nungambakkam High Road, the expo
attracted over 65 participants from within the country and
abroad, including the State Tourism Departments of Tamil Nadu,
Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Orissa.
Major players including the Department of Tourism and Commerce
Marketing, Dubai, (the partner country for the event), the Sri
Lanka Tourism Department, the Tourism Malaysia, the Mauritius
Tourism, Switzerland Tourism, and Europe Incoming from England,
have taken stalls. Kuala Lumpur incidentally will be hosting a
shopping festival from August 4. The Le Royal Meridien Hotel here
is the ``official host'' for the travel mart.
Explaining the objectives of the event, Mr. Rohit Hangal,
Director, IITM, said the expo provided a platform to the travel
and tourism industry to display diverse destinations, negotiate
special packages from India and abroad, and hold interaction
sessions with tourists.
Inaugurated by Dr. V. Varaprasada Rao, State Commissioner of
Tourism, the exposition will be open to the public between 11
a.m. and 6 p.m. till Saturday.
