Pilgrims' killing
Sir, - The killing of Amarnath pilgrims again this year was un-
Islamic brutality coming close on the heels of the failure of the
Agra summit. In fact, it is a challenge to the Prime Minister's
statement that India has the strength and stamina to tackle
cross-border terrorism. The objective is clearly to whip up
communal rancour in the subcontinent. The intention of Pakistan
is clear - it wants Kashmir by hook or by crook.
No one in India seriously believes that Pakistan would agree to
our stand that Kashmir is an integral part of our country. It is
because of our defensive approach that Pakistan continues to bank
on terrorism to achieve its ambition in Kashmir. It is foolish to
hope that Pakistan would stop encouraging cross-border terrorism.
The only way to stop the violence is to retake the Pakistan-
occupied part of Kashmir.
A. Kalyanaraman,
Chennai
