More unilateral Indian gestures on the way
Despite mixed signals from across the border,
India is determined to sustain a positive approach to the
impending talks with Pakistan, well-placed sources in the
Government said here today.
Pak. Commerce Minister may be left out
It is more or less clear now that the
Pakistani President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, will travel to New
Delhi next week with a single point agenda - Kashmir.
DGMO for Pak. 'early next week'
The Director-General of Military Operations
(DGMO), Lt. General G.S Sihota, would leave for Islamabad ``early
next week to discuss with his counterpart, ways to ease military
tensions along the Line of Control and the Siachen area,'' an
Army spokesman said here today.
Clarify stance on summit, Govt. told
The mood of despondency and pessimism that
seems to have set in ahead of the India-Pakistan summit dialogue
next week has led several political parties, especially the
Opposition, to ask the Government for clarity in its approach to
Centre to review Naga ceasefire
After a stormy all-party meeting here today,
the Centre announced that it would review the ceasefire agreement
with the Naga militant group, NSCN(I-M), and the process would be
completed before the end of this month.
Pak. harps on 'centrality of Kashmir'
With six days left for the Indo-Pak. summit at
Agra, the military establishment here continues to harp on the
theme ``centrality of Kashmir'' to improvement in ties between
the two countries.
No visa for Altaf Hussain
The chief of the Muttahida Quami Movement
(MQM) of Pakistan, Mr. Altaf Hussian, has not applied for a visa
to visit India, according to knowledgeable sources. ``We will not
grant him the visa, even if an application were made,'' a senior
official said, reacting to reports that the MQM leader could be
visiting India ``soon''.
Musharraf convenes NSC meeting
Pakistan's military ruler and President, Gen.
Pervez Musharraf, has convened a meeting of the newly-
reconstituted National Security Council (NSC) on July 11 to
discuss his scheduled summit meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr.
Atal Behari Vajpayee, in Agra on July 15 and 16.
Pak. unaware of DGMO visit?
Pakistan today said it was unaware of India's
proposal to send its Director-General of Military Operations,
Lt. Gen. G. S. Sihota, and defence and foreign affairs experts to
Islamabad to establish peace along the Line of Control.
Onus of summit success on both of us: Musharraf
The Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf,
has said the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, and he
will be equally responsible for the success of the July 15
