Amarsinh Chaudhary is PCC chief
By Our Special Correspondent
AHMEDABAD, JUNE 9. The former Chief Minister and presently Leader
of the Opposition in the Assembly, Mr. Amarsinh Chaudhary, has
been appointed president of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress
Committee.
Mr. Chaudhary was informed about his appointment when he called
on the party's national president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, in Delhi this
morning, according to a GPCC spokesman here. A copy of his
appointment order, signed by the AICC general secretary and in-
charge of Gujarat affairs, Mr. Kamal Nath, was send to the senior
PCC vice president and party spokesman, Mr Hasmukh Patel.
Mr Chaudhary's appointment brings to an end the uncertainty
prevailing in the Congress circle here since the post fell vacant
with the death of Mr C. D. Patel in February. The appointment was
preceded by intense groupism within the party with more than
half-a-dozen aspirants staking their claims for the post.
