Yamaha to double motorcycle sales
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, JUNE 9. Yamaha Motor Escorts, which makes the Yamaha
motorcycles, has set itself an ambitious target of doubling sales
this year to three lakh motorcycles, according to Mr. Ajay Singh
Raghuvanshi, Zonal Manager of the Southern region comprising four
States - Andhara Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The company has five models now including the recently launched
Crux. Going by the initial market response to Crux, which alone
accounted for 5,000 of the 10,000 motorcycles sold in Andhra
Pradesh during the December-March 2000-01, the company seems to
have been emboldened and fixed a target of 1.80 lakh Crux (four
stroke) for sale this year. The all India motorcycle sales in
year ended March 2001 were 20 lakhs, of which 73 per cent were
four stroke.
Giving details of their aggressive marketing, Mr. Raghuvanshi,
said at a press conference here on Friday that this included
finance schemes, free test rides, exchange camps and 250
visitation camps. To attract semi-urban and rural customers, it
plans `booking counters' in taluks and villages.
A demo van will travel across smaller towns and villages to allow
customers to get a feel of the bike.
