TDP deplores ``misleading propaganda'' by Cong, TRS

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JUNE. 9. The ruling TDP has taken strong exception to what it termed``misleading propaganda'' by the Congress-I, the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) and others about injustice done Telangana and more so on the Government Order relating to filling up vacancies with local candidates.

At a press conference, the TDP politburo member, Mr.S.Venugopalchary, general secretary, Mr.Lal Jan Basha and spokesman, Mr.R.Chandrasekhar Reddy, asserted that the GO 610 was specifically meant for filling up jobs under irrigation projects, which are not covered by the Six Point Formula.

Based on the representation by the Telangana NGOs Association in 1984, the GO was issued in 1985. The posts of the irrigation projects were filled up at local level and in case of any complaints, the aggrieved parties are entitled to file their petitions before the Cabinet sub-committee on services.

The TDP leaders said not a single petition is pending before the Cabinet sub-committee in this regard. It was therefore irrational to claim that the GO is not being implemented and that a number of vacancies are required to be filled in. The TNGOs Association was free to raise the matter before the Cabinet sub- committee, they clarified.

They also refuted the charge that the region was neglected under TDP dispensation. They said more funds were utilised for Telangana development by the TDP Government than by the Congress- I. During 1995-2000, Telangana got a share of Rs 1167 crores (43.01 per cent) out of Rs. 2713.99 crores spent on major irrigation in the entire State.

During the same period, the share of Telangana was Rs. 174.12 per cent (46 per cent) out of Rs. 430.34 crores allocated for medium irrigation. In respect of minor irrigation, the region was allotted Rs. 115.11 crores (41 per cent) as against Rs. 279.12 crores for the entire state.

The TDP leader said in Adilabad district for instance, only 83,000 acres were brought under irrigation by the Congress Government while 1.03 lakh acres was irrigated by the TDP Government. In the fields of medicine and education, the TDP Government spent four times more than what the Congress Government spent over the years, they said.
