Russian experts visit Koodankulam

NAGERCOIL, JUNE 9. A team of Russian experts today concluded its
two-day visit to Koodankulam to finalise the tender document for
the proposed nuclear power plants of 2 X 1000 MW capacity.
The team later arrived in Kanyakumari and discussed with the
officials of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited
(NPCIL).
Comprising 12 experts from diverse fields including civil,
mechanical and electrical and lead by Mr. Klonitsky Mikhail,
Deputy Chief Engineer, AEP, the team held parleys with Mr. C.B.
Jain, Chief Engineer of the project.
Mr. Jain said NPCIL had received Russia's techno commercial offer
and the offer was being scrutinised before submission to the
Centre for approval.
After finalising the tender, both the Governments would sign a
memorandum of understanding to start building the Pressurised
Water Reactors (VVER type).
As per the offer, the material required for the atomic plant
would be shipped from Russia via the Tuticorin port to the site.
The Russians would provide all material, equipment and spares
including nuclear fuel required for the whole life of the plant.
