Paints, prints and kids....
By Lalit K. Jha
Poor children adopted by Child Relief and You (CRY), a non-
governmental organisation, are all set to invade the globe,
courtesy an apparel manufacturing company.
Coinciding with World Environment Day, the company, Uni Style
Image (USI), has organised a painting competition for CRY
children, best of which will be chosen as prints for a special
range of T-shirts to be launched later this month and then
exported to various countries around the world.
About 30 children from CRY would participate in the painting
competition being held at three different USI outlets at Greater
Kailash-II, Rajouri Garden and Karol Bagh. The objective is to
bring before the public the vision of these neglected children on
``The Green World'' chosen as the theme of the competition.
Says Mr. Ashvinder Singh, owner of USI brand: ``We not only
approach our customers directly to spread awareness about
environment by using recycled paper bags, letter heads and
visiting cards but also involve socially and economically
deprived children to work towards a greener world''.
As part of its endeavour, the company has also decided to
sponsor all these 30 children for their entire educational and
health needs for the next one year. Further, it will also be
donating a portion from the sales of this range of T-shirts to
the prize winners of the competition.
Company officials said the printing of these paintings on T-
shirts will help in not only taking the message of environment
protection to the masses but also bring out the hidden talent of
these deprived children. Side by side, the USI is also holding a
contest for consumers, each of whom would be receiving a gift
voucher.
