BJP reiterates stand on Telangana
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JUNE 4. The State BJP leadership continues to remain
confused on the Telangana issue with its high command directing
it to go soft on the contentious subject in view of its equation
with the ruling TDP here.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the spokespersons
of the State unit, Mr. Kishan Reddy and Mr.P. Prabhakar and Dr.K.
Laxman, MLA, said that the officer-bearers' meet was a peaceful
affair and there was no rancour at the meeting over the issue.
Though they kept saying confusion, if any, was in other political
parties, their evasive replies to pointed questions belied their
claim.
They said the State president of the party had briefed the
national leadership on the developments here during the recently-
concluded national convention of the party. The party would
contest maximum number of seats in the panchayat elections and
there had been no attempt to have an understanding with any party
so far.
They said there was no threat whatsoever from the party's
Telangana MLAs though they were airing their personal opinion (in
favour of) on the issue of statehood for Telangana. If any, only
the BJP could deliver smaller States to fulfill the aspirations
of people and not any other party, they said. But when would it
be in the case of Telangana, they could not say but only added
that ``it will be done at the right time.''
The meeting decided to depute leaders to different districts to
seek workers' opinion on the strategy in the panchayat elections,
they said.
