Top naxalite leader held
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, JUNE 4. The city police have dealt a major blow to the
CPI-ML Jana Shakti group when they nabbed one of its most wanted
District Committee Members, Sirikonda Jalapathi alias Manganna,
in a routine vehicle-checking operation in Bahadurpura locality
on Monday.
The police teams, which interrogated him, seized four revolvers,
two pistols, 35 rounds of live ammunition, extremist literature
and Rs 52,000 in cash at his instance from a den. Two more
associates of Manganna were also arrested. Manganna is involved
in as many as 100 criminal cases including 28 murders, 17 attempt
to murder cases. He played a crucial role in the attack on the
gunmen of an MLA in Karimnagar district in which weapons from the
bodyguards were snatched.
Announcing the arrest at a press conference, the Commissioner of
Police, Mr. Pervaram Ramulu, said Manganna was riding a Yamaha
motor cycle along with Isampally Narayana when the police team,
led by Inspector Ramanjaneyulu, stopped them. The police team
noticed that while the vehicle had one registration number, the
papers mentioned a different number. When they were frisked, the
police found two pistols on the motorcyclists.
They were immediately taken into custody and questioned. Later,
the duo took the police teams to their den in Ashoknagar where
the police seized four more short weapons. The den keeper, Juttu
Sudarshan, native of Nookalamarri village of Karimnagar district,
was also taken into custody. A beaming Mr. Ramulu, described the
arrest as the result as a `most satisfying work' and pointed out
that when the police did not ignore the routine policing like
vehicle checking, such fantastic results could be achieved.
He said the Inspector would be recommended for a Meritorious
Service Entry and the constables for cash rewards.
