'Our stand on J&K unaltered'
India today reiterated its commitment to peace and reconciliation with Pakistan but insisted that it would not allow Islamabad to unilaterally define the terms of a renewed political engagement between the two nations.

The Centre's interlocutor, Mr. K.C. Pant, arrived here today on a six-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, expressing the hope that his efforts would ultimately lead to a political settlement of the complex Kashmir problem.

 CWC meet focus on U.P.
The Congress is gearing up for the battle in Uttar Pradesh. The party today decided to focus single-mindedly on the State, in a desperate bid to turn things around. Though the three-hour meeting of the Congress Working Committee dealt with a range of issues from the outcome of the recent Assembly elections, to India-Pakistan relations, especially in the context of the Government's invitation to Pakistan's Chief Executive, Gen. Pervez Musharaff, and the situation in West Asia, the focus by all accounts was on the impending battle in Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, today broke her silence on the question of her children joining politics, saying the decision would be made by them. ``In our family, children are taught to take their own decisions,'' Ms. Gandhi told presspersons after the CWC meeting at the AICC headquarters.

Jayalalitha to press for revival of corruption cases against Karunanidhi
Making clear her intent to take on the DMK on the issue of corruption, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalitha, today announced that she would press the Centre to revive the corruption cases against the former Chief Minister and DMK president, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, on the basis of the Sarkaria Commission report.

 Bomb attack on VHP leader
Mahant Nrityagopal Das, a senior trustee of the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas, was injured in a bomb attack near the banks of the Ghaghra river in Ayodhya early this morning. The security guard of the mahant and some sadhus accompanying him were also injured.

Five members of film unit injured in violence
The members of a Tamil film unit and a group of people clashed at Mandyakoppal on the banks of the Cauvery in Srirangapatna taluk on Sunday evening.

Ultimatum to Prabhakar
The Uttaranchal police will take steps to declare the former Test cricketer, Mr. Manoj Prabhakar, a proclaimed offender if he does not surrender or is not arrested by the Delhi police pursuant to a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with a chit fund scam case.

70 more cows slaughtered
Seventy cows were butchered in a village in Gurgaon district of Haryana close on the heels of the slaughter of 100 cows at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.
