 Vajpayee swears by reforms
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, today rebuffed the trade unions and other critics of the NDA Government's economic policies by unequivocally declaring that there was no question of going back on economic reforms.

 Buddhadeb sworn in CM
As the clock struck 11 this morning, the communists-led 48-member Left Front Ministry in West Bengal was sworn in for the sixth time in a row at a glittering ceremony in Raj Bhavan witnessed by a host of celebrities. The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress preferred to stay away on the grounds that the Leftists had occupied office by rigging the elections.

 Time sanctions were lifted: Rocca
Sanctions have outlived their usefulness and are an obstacle to engaging both India and Pakistan, says the nominee for the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia, Ms. Christina Rocca.

The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party leader, Mr. Shabir Shah, today said that Kashmiri leaders around the world favoured a dialogue and he would like to meet the Government's interlocutor, Mr. K. C. Pant, during his visit to the State.

 17-member Gogoi Ministry sworn in
A 17-member Council of Ministers, headed by the Chief Minister, Mr. Tarun Gogoi, was sworn in today by the Governor, Lt. Gen.(retd) S.K. Sinha, at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhavan here. The portfolios would be announced later.

Indo-U.S. ties will be firmed up further: Chokila Iyer
The momentum gained in India's relation with the U.S. in the last two years of the Clinton administration will continue with the present Republican administration, according to the Foreign Secretary, Ms. Chokila Iyer.
