Mingled yarn of our lives
Today there are success stories aplenty. What is common to all is
that their protagonists cannot claim to have made it to the top
on their own. Not one among them can discount the backing and
encouragement of their support teams. Their lives are entangled
with those of their colleagues and co-workers in an inevitable
and inescapable web.
For that matter, every person on earth, in every walk of life,
finds that isolation from society can never lead to a meaningful
existence. In a world built on reciprocity, people have to rely
on one another; teamwork and consultation are the rule of the
day. All that we do is directly and actively influenced by those
around us.
In the rat race that we find ourselves in today, the man who
succeeds is the one with the most contacts, the one who uses the
web of people to maximum advantage.
People power has often been cited as the most powerful weapon in
one's arsenal. It adds value to our strengths and cumulative
experience goes a long way in furthering one's cause.
In any competitive field, success stories speak of team spirit
and cooperation, not of individuals. This mesh of relations starts
at home.
The support of parents, elders and siblings is essential, for it
provides us with love and affection; instilling in us the
confidence to brave the world.
In school too, we find that the guidance of teachers and
encouragement of friends help one on the way.
This dependence continues at the workplace, where no project can
be completed without the support from peers, cooperation of
subordinates and encouragement of superiors. Later, old age
brings its infirmities and an increased need for assistance.
The other side of the coin is also evident: the entanglements
work either way.
Others too expect our help, and every strand of the web needs to
be built from both ends. We play an important role in their lives
for it could be that we help them enroute to success. This
symbiosis is what runs the world.
Fulfilling our end of the interrelations should be a primary
objective. Today man's prosperity and happiness are largely
governed by those close to him and the immutable web that life
weaves around us all.
