DSQ opens centre at Tidel Park

By Our Corporate Reporter

CHENNAI, MARCH 9. The Chennai based DSQ Software has opened a new offshore development centre at Tidel Park (Chennai) that will undertake offshore project work in insurance, banking and finance for overseas clients.

Inaugurating the 30,000 sq. ft. facility here yesterday, Mr. Hardat Ramkhelawan, senior vice-president and CAO (chief applications officer), of Liberty Mutual Insurance group of the U.S. said a number of U.S. companies were moving to India and such companies could source their IT products cheaper from the Chennai centre. The group was working with some smaller companies in India three years ago mainly for its Y2K needs. They had now decided to have longer term relationships with Indian software companies, he said.

Mr. Pawan Kumar, President & CEO of DSQ Software, said the Tidel Park centre would undertake offshore project work for its clients in the U.S. initially. It would augment DSQ's capability in terms of delivering quality solutions to global customers. Tier one Indian IT companies such as Wipro had started competing with tier one global companies. And to face this competition the tier one global companies were looking for tie-ups with tier two Indian companies such as DSQ, he said.

The U.S. slowdown had not affected Indian software companies though it had its impact on the placement business of Indian IT companies. In fact the last two months had seen more prospective customers entering into tie ups with Indian companies to secure their requirements, Mr. Kumar said.

With this overseas development centre,, the total number of DSQ facilities has gone up to nine - five in India and four abroad.
