CM opens auditorium
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, MARCH 9. The Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi,
declared open an auditorium and a school block at two separate
functions on Friday.
Built by the Chennai Corporation, the fully-airconditioned
auditorium came up at the junction of G.N. Chetty Road and
Srinivasa Road in T.Nagar. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 97.5
lakhs, the building, with a seating capacity of 500, had a total
built up area of 1,120 sq.m. It was named after the first non-
official chief of the Corporation, Pitti Thegaraya Chetti.
The Corporation's officials say the auditorium will be given on a
rent for cultural programmes and the rate will be determined by
the Council.
The Rs. 38-lakh three-storeyed school block, forming part of the
Corporation's Middle School on Bangaru Naicken Street in
Triplicane, was built under the assistance of the MLA Development
Fund for Chepauk Assembly constituency. (Mr. Karunanidhi is the
sitting Chepauk MLA).
