Govt. initiates dumping probe against Ukraine
NEW DELHI, MARCH 9. Less than three months after notifying anti-
dumping duties on imports of ferro silicon from China and Russia,
the Government has now initiated investigations into imports of
the same from Ukraine while confirming provisional anti-dumping
duties on all imports of an organic chemical, Trimethorpim (TMP)
from China.
The Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD)
under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has started
investigations of imports of ferro silicon from Ukraine on the
basis of a petition filed by the Bhubaneshwar-based company,
Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Ltd.
Ferro silicon - an alloy of iron and silicon - is used as a
deoxidiser in the production of steel and alloy steels.
The DGAD had in November 2000 recommended provisional anti-
dumping duties against imports of ferro silicon from China and
Russia on the basis of a petition filed by the same company.
The Finance Ministry had in December notified imposition of
provisional anti-dumping duties against imports of ferro silicon
from the two countries, and imposed an anti-dumping duty of Rs.
33,120 per mt against imports from Russia while imposing Rs.
33,120 per mt on all imports from China.
The DGAD has also recommended definitive anti-dumping duties
equivalent to the difference between the amount of $20 per kg and
the landed value of all imports of TMP from China.
