Assets case: witness turns hostile
PATNA, JAN. 6. Yet another prosecution witness, the then Circle
Officer of Phulwaria block in Bihar's Gopalganj district, Mr.
Tribhuwan Nath, was declared hostile by the designated CBI judge,
Mr. S.K. Pathak, in connection with a disproportionate assets
(DA) case against the RJD chief, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav and the
Chief Minister, Mrs. Rabri Devi.
Mr. Pathak declared Mr. Nath hostile yesterday considering the
prayer of CBI in the DA case which charges Mr. Yadav with having
accumulated wealth worth over Rs. 47 lakhs disproportionate to
his known sources of income when he was the Chief Minister
between 1991 and July 1996. Mr. Nath was the eighth witness who
had so far turned hostile in the course of proceeding trial out
of 137 witnesses mentioned in the chargesheet. Mr. Nath is at
present posted in Daltonganj in Jharkhand as an Executive
Magistrate. CBI's Special Prosecutor, Mr. L.R. Ansari, in his
petition to declare Mr. Nath hostile, alleged that Mr. Nath
deviated from what he had said before the Investigating Officer
during the course of the probe.
