Bhupathi-Paes stay on course
By Our Tennis Correspondent
CHENNAI, JAN. 6. The old magic was back. The familiar feeling was
back. And, suddenly, the Gold Flake Open became the Gold Flake
Open of old on Friday evening at the Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium.
An emotionally charged audience that filled a little over two-
thirds of the stadium capacity was rewarded suitably as Indian
tennis' perfect pair produced another winning performance in
electric atmosphere.
Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes stormed into the semifinals of
the tournament for the fourth time - they won the first three
doubles titles here from 1997-99 - with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 defeat
of Michal Tabara and Tomas Zib of the Czech Republic.
