Rishipal shocks Neelotpal

HYDERABAD JAN. 6. Local lad Rishipal Singh of Osmania University created the biggest sensation of the day when he defeated International Master Neelotpal Das in the fifth round of the 5th Global Trust Bank's FIDE rated All India Open chess tournament here on Saturday. Top seed G.B. Prakash maintained a half point lead over the rest by beating Survajit Saha.

Rishipal, playing with great precision, gradually established his domination and by the 14th move had a clear advantage. On the 24th move he was a pawn up and Neelotpal under time pressure lost a piece in the 33rd move and surrendered on the 37th.

Another AP player, Y. Kalyan Kumar who had upset P. Konguvel on Friday, kept up his fine performance by beating IM N.K. Mishra in 45 moves. Mishra adopted a Nimzo Indian defence and on the 21st move Kalyan sacrificed a knight for a pawn and later went a pawn up. He established complete control on the board and forced Mishra to resign on the 45th move.
