Medical, sales representatives to go on strike
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JAN. 6. Members of the Tamilnadu Medical and Sales
Representatives Association will go on strike from January 8 to
12 in support of their 27-point charter of demands.
Mr. G. Gopinathan, general secretary of the Association, said the
strike was being observed in response to the call given by the
Federation of Medical Representatives Associations of India.A
total of 60,000 members would participate in the strike.
He said that utilising the unorganised condition of field
workers, most of the companies were depriving the members of the
statutory benefits. Various dubious practices on the part of
certain companies had led to huge loss of revenue to the
exchequer and the market was consequently flooded with spurious
and substandard drugs.
A convention was held a few days ago which was addressed by the
representatives of the CITU,Insurance Employees Union,District
Youth Federation of India, All India Democratic Women`s
Association, wholesale and retail medicine sellers association
among others.
Mr. S. R. Sribalaganesh, secretary of the Pondicherry unit of the
Association, welcomed those present. As part of the agitation the
Medical and Sales Representatives Association would stage a
dharna at the junction of Mahatma Gandhi Road and Lal Bahadhur
street from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. even as the strike is in progress.
