Minister interacts with women at basti sabha
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, JAN. 6.The questions flew swift and fast. Are the
classes held regularly? Do the volunteers come at all? Do you see
any change in your life?
The basti sabha organised on the fifth day of the Janmabhoomi
programme on Saturday at Sambamurthinagar slum in Sanathnagar
Assembly constituency turned out to be a virtual classroom with
the Minister for Labour and Employment, Mr. C. Krishna Yadav,
wielding the cane as it were.
Mr. Krishna Yadav interacted directly with women folk and had a
first hand information about the functioning of the "Akshara
Sankranthi" programme. He even had the neo literates read out the
Telugu primer as the officials looked on with bated breath. After
sometime the Minister turned the heat on the teacher of a
Government school in the area. He wanted to know what was being
done to check the dropouts. There was also a complaint about the
teachers not coming in time and the Minister enquired whether it
was a regular feature. "No, it is not a regular feature. There is
a delay sometimes when we do not get the RTC bus in time," a
woman teacher informed.
Mr. Krishna Yadav encouraged the basti women to reveal the
shortcomings, if any, in the functioning of the various
departments. When goaded, the complaints came out openly. A
person informed the Minister about the storing of furniture in
the Government school at Sambamurthinagar by a nearby furniture
shop. The Hyderabad Collector, Mr. Rajesh Tiwari, instructed the
RDO to seize the furniture and book a police complaint against
the shop owner.
A woman complained about the MCH negligence in not cleaning the
public toilets in the slum despite repeated representations. This
was not all. Even the local MLA, Mr. Sripathrajeshwar, sounded
dejected at the lack of followup in respect of shifting of the
postmortem centre at Gandhi Hospital. This matter he had raised
in the previous Janmabhoomi programmes to no avail.
Earlier, addressing a basti sabha at Bowenpally, Mr. Krishna
Yadav, stressed the importance of literacy and urged the women to
send their children to school. Dr. Alladi Rajkumar, MP, expressed
happiness at the good response to the Janmabhoomi programme. The
Secunderabad Cantonment MLA, Mr. G. Sayanna, complained about the
dilapidated condition of the Government schools in the area. It
would be better if their maintenance was transferred from the
Ranga Reddy district to the Cantonment Board, he said.
