Special edition Qualis launch on Jan. 11

BANGALORE, JAN. 6. Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), the Indian arm
of the Japanese giant Toyota Motor Corporation, will launch a
special first anniversary limited edition of Qualis on January
11.
Only 1,000 units of this multi-purpose vehicle (MPV)) will be
manufactured for special customers whose incomes are over Rs 10
lakhs a year and who live in urban and semi-urban areas.
The TKM Board told presspersons here on Saturday that the Special
Edition black-coloured Qualis would mark the first year of the
vehicle on Indian roads. (The Qualis was launched on January 11,
2000).
The First Anniversary Qualis is priced at approximately Rs. 8
lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) and Rs. 7.71 lakh (in Bangalore). It
will "bring a touch of luxury and class previously only
associated with the Sedan segment to the MPV category," according
to the TKM Vice-Chairman, Mr. Vikram.S.Kirloskar.
Mr. Kirloskar said that the Qualis which was positioned in the
premium MPV segment, had garnered a market share of 35 per cent
in 2000. "We aim to increase it to 46 per cent this year."
Last year, sales of the Qualis touched 21,785 units exceeding the
annual target of 20,000 vehicles, and the turnover was Rs. 900
crores. This year, the turnover target was Rs. 1,600 crore.
The TKM was set up in India in 1997. The Karnataka plant is
situated in the Bidadi Industrial Area. The Toyota Qualis range
comes in a variety of models priced between Rs. 5 lakhs and Rs.
8.5 lakhs.
