Labour Dept. to hold camps from Jan. 8

CHENNAI, JAN. 6. The Labour Department will hold camps in Chennai from January 8 to enrol members for the various non-formal workers' welfare boards.

Last month, the Government announced the setting up of separate welfare boards for unorganised labourers such as auto and car drivers, washermen, tailors, hair dressers, etc. To get membership, the workers can approach the camps with two passport size photographs, Rs. 100 as life-time subscription and an identity document (ration card, voter identity card, drivers licence or school certificate).

The members would be eligible for benefits such as assistance for marriage, maternity benefit, children's education, compensation for accidents, disability or death.

The camps would be held on January 8 at Raja Annamalai Mandram, Esplanade, Shanti marriage hall, Kapaleeswarar Sannidhi Street, Mylapore; PT. Ramakrishnan Chettiar hall, Millers Road;

On January 9 at: Vaigai Mahal, T.H. Road, Washermanpet; Shanta Lakshmi Hall, Big Street., Triplicane and Hotel Imperial, Egmore.

On January 10: Sattur nadar Uravinmurai Hall, SN Chetty Street, Tondiarpet; at Adyar Traders Association, Tiruvanmiyur and Sivasakthi Hall, Anna nagar;

On January 11: VVMA Jyothi Maligai, Tondiarpet; Chennai Devanga Mahasabai, Palaniandavar St, Vadapalani and Villivakkam Traders Association, Gandhi Street;

On January 12: AITUC hall, Prakasam Salai, Broadway; Murugan Marriage Hall, South. Boag Rd. T.Nagar and Rajalakshmi Mahal, Patel Road, Perambur.
