Action plan soon on ryots' problems: CM
By Our Correspondent
KARLAM (Vizianagaram) JAN. 6. The Chief Minister, Mr. N.
Chandrababu Naidu, said on Saturday that an action plan as to how
the problems of farmers could be tackled in the near feature
would be prepared on the basis of the feedback he would receive
from the 80 supervisory officers deployed for the 14th round of
Janmabhoomi programme.
Participating in a gram sabha here on Saturday, the Chief
Minister explained at length the concept of Janmabhoomi. He
assured the gathering that he would take personal interest in the
development of the backward Vizianagaram district. In contrast to
the prevailing drought conditions here, in other districts, where
the crop yield was good, the farmers were not getting support
price due to growing competition in the agricultural sector, he
said, and suggested to farmers to adopt methods that would
improve yield at very low investment.
Lively exchanges
According to a Srikakulam report, the gram sabha of the Chief
Minister at Tandyamvalasa, near here, turned out to be a fruitful
one with the villagers expressing themselves freely and utilising
the opportunity to voice their needs and Mr. Naidu positively
responding to them. He promised a lift irrigation scheme for the
village. Mr. Naidu directed the nodal officer, Mr. Rajagopala
Rao, to do away with the reading out of the Chief Minister's
message since he himself was present. In his address later, he
talked about the problems caused by the abundant production of
paddy. The yield had gone up from 2,400 kg an acre to 2,550 kg.
Mr. Naidu had his interaction with presidents of self- help
groups in a relaxed mood. With an enthusiastic crowd, he gently
went ahead with his questioning, encouraging leaders of various
groups.
It was the Jalarakshana Samiti president who threw the crowd and
those present into peals of laughter. He tried to bluff his way
through but later admitted that he was given the responsibility
recently. His attempts to speak in English raised laughter and he
continued to do so in spite of the Chief Minister repeatedly
telling him to speak in Telugu. In his interaction with SHG
members involved in Akshar Sankranti programme, the Chief
Minister made a 60-year-old woman read out a lesson and expressed
his satisfaction.
