NPP tally up
By M. S. Prabhakara
CAPE TOWN, JAN. 6. The strength of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
in Ghana's 200-member Parliament has gone up to 100, with the
victory of its candidate, Ms Cecilia Gyan Amoah, from Asutifi
South constituency in Brong- Ahafo Region in the rescheduled poll
held on Wednesday.
She defeated, among others, the sitting MP of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Colin Dauda, by a margin of over
8,000 votes.
The NPP had won 99 of the 199 parliamentary constituencies where
polling took place on Dec. 7. Polling in Asutifi South was
countermanded consequent upon the death of the NPP candidate,
Philip Amoah. The NPP nominated his widow, Ms Cecilia Amoah, as
its candidate in the rescheduled poll.
