 Group of Ministers will discuss autonomy: Farooq
Dr. Farooq Abdullah appears to have earned the prime ministerial nod to his suggestion that a Group of Ministers be constituted at the Centre to engage a Jammu and Kashmir ministerial team on the thorny question of the quantum and kind of ``autonomy'' for the troubled State.

Cabinet nod for HMT turnaround plan
The Union Cabinet today cleared a turnaround plan for the public sector HMT involving an investment of Rs. 250 crores, the closure of five unviable units and conversion of three divisions into subsidiaries. The decision was taken on the recommendations of the Group of Ministers last month.

No grounding of Alliance Air planes
The Union Civil Aviation Minister, Mr. Sharad Yadav, today totally ruled out grounding any Alliance Air aircraft in the wake of the crash of its 20-year-old Boeing 737- 200 at Patna, which claimed 55 lives on Monday.

Quake hits N.India
An earthquake of moderate intensity shook the northern and north- eastern parts of India in the early hours today, damaging buildings and forcing panic-stricken people out into the streets.
