State-sponsored terrorism threat to democracy: PM
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, today said State-sponsored terrorism was a threat to democracies all over the world and the international community needed to formulate new strategies to combat it if democracies were to progress.

 S.African cricketers in 'match-fixing' net
The Delhi police today claimed to have unearthed a multicrore cricket betting and match-fixing racket involving five South African cricketers including the captain, Hansie Cronje. A Delhi-based Indian operator has been arrested in this connection.

 Poor response to NDA bandh in Bihar
The Bihar bandh, called by the National Democratic Alliance to press its demand for the resignation of the Chief Minister, Mrs. Rabri Devi, following the CBI chargesheet against her in the disproportionate assets case, evoked a lukewarm response today.

Sharif lawyers preparing for appeal
Lawyers representing the ousted Pakistani Prime Minister, Mr. Nawaz Sharif, may file an appeal as early as Monday against his hijacking and terrorism convictions, the head of his legal team said today. ``We have to examine every aspect of the judgment and take a decision. If the grounds are not that extensive, we may file an appeal by Monday,'' Mr. Khwaja Sultan said from Lahore.

Duties on cereals
Within a week of lifting restrictions on the import of 714 items, including consumer goods and food items, the Government has slapped high customs duties on select cereals and fruits.

Sensex zooms 352 points
An all-round strong rally lifted the benchmark 30-share index by a whopping 352 points to 5219, the third largest single-session zoom, on the Bombay Stock Exchange today following frenzied buying by foreign institutional investors.
