 Jharkhand, sticking point
After three rounds of talks today between Congress(I) leaders and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, it became obvious that the Jharkhand issue had become the sore point. Efforts were on to find a middle path, a compromise acceptable to both parties.

Gujarat Govt. did not violate any law: Advani
The Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, told the Rajya Sabha today that the Gujarat Government had not violated any law or rule by allowing its employees to participate in the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and that the Centre had no jurisdiction to issue any directive seeking withdrawal of the controversial circular even as the entire Opposition walked out in protest.

Speaker upset, tells PM to break the deadlock
Unhappy over the daily adjournments in the Lok Sabha, the Speaker, Mr. G.M.C. Balayogi, is believed to have asked the Prime Minister to take the initiative and break the deadlock with the Opposition on the RSS issue.

 'PSU disinvestment could yield much more'
The Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha, is hopeful that the public sector disinvestment exercise would yield more than the Rs. 10,000 crores target set in the budget this year.

J&K Assembly wants Gujarat order revoked
Amid uproarious scenes and slogan-shouting, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today passed a resolution urging the Central Government to impress upon the Gujarat Government to revoke the decision allowing its employees to join the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), saying it would endanger the country's secular democratic character.

'TDP to fight price hike'
The Telugu Desam president and the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, has asserted that ``an uncompromising fight would be waged'' with the Centre to protect the people's interests, in the wake of the increase in the prices of urea and rice in the Union Budget.

 Sonia asks people to unite against fascist forces
The Congress(I) president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, today called upon all right-thinking people to unite for the cause of the future generations and fight ``fascist communal forces bent upon attacking the Constitution and dividing the country''.

Foreigners have second thoughts over investing in Gujarat?
Norway and Netherlands have sent their embassy staff to Gujarat to study the law and order situation here following the Government's move to allow its employees to take part in RSS activities.

 Nipamacha Govt. installed
A 34- member United Front Ministry headed by the Chief Minister, Mr. Wahengbam Nipamacha Singh, was sworn in today in Manipur.
