Tiger Woods may not have won a title for more than a year now, but he did make some kind of start in that direction, as he partnered close friend Mark O'Meara to win the Omega Dubai Desert Classic Challenge Match on the eve of the much-awaited golf tournament.

The American pair, who have three Omega Dubai Desert Classic titles between them, took on Lee Westwood and Miguel Angel Jimz and Jeev Milkha Singh and Noh Seung-yul over the Emirates Golf Club's Par 3 course.

Woods and O'Meara were four under par for the nine hole Challenge, with Westwood and Jimenez two under par and Jeev and Seung-yul one under par.

The floodlit Challenge Match, which was spearheaded by World No. 1 Westwood, runner-up in the overall tournament last year after losing in a play-off to Jimenez and 14 time Major Champion Woods.

“It's always fun to play with Mark. We don't play as much as we used to. Obviously he's on the Senior Tour now and it's nice to catch up and play and we'll have dinner this week.

“It's always fun. He's like my big brother and it's always fun to get out there and play with him. I hit some good shots and he made all the putts!,” Woods said after the match.
